My [glowing flowers](https://light.bio) have arrived.
A few months back, I heard about this company called Light Bio that has engineered petunias to emit a soothing, bioluminescent glow. I was fascinated by the concept and decided to order some Firefly Petunias for myself. ^51f282

According to a [recent article from Science Alert](https://www.sciencealert.com/gorgeously-glowing-plants-shine-bright-throughout-their-life-cycle), scientists have made significant advancements in creating self-sustaining glowing plants. Using DNA from bioluminescent fungi, they've engineered tobacco plants that glow throughout their entire life cycle without the need for any special treatments or chemicals. The article mentions that the researchers are also working on modifying other popular flowering plants, like petunias, to produce an even brighter glow in different colors.
Light Bio has taken this research and made it available to consumers. The Firefly Petunias arrived as small plants rooted in 4" pots, with developing buds and a few newly opened flowers. The company states that with good growing conditions, the plants will quickly reach about 8 to 10 inches in size with abundant white flowers.
One of the best things about these petunias is that they don't require any special care. They can be grown indoors as long as they receive several hours of direct sunlight each day, and they don't need any special treatments to glow. The luminescence is best observed in a dark room or on a moonless night, with the youngest flowers glowing the brightest.
It's important to note that Firefly Petunias are protected under patent, so propagation and breeding are not permitted. They are sold exclusively for personal use and are only shipped within the USA due to potential importation and usage restrictions in other countries. Like other petunias, they are not intended for consumption and should be kept away from pets and children who might try to eat them.
I'm excited to watch my Firefly Petunias grow and glow, adding a unique and magical touch to my home. It's incredible to think about how far science has come in creating these bioluminescent plants, and I can't wait to see what other glowing wonders the future holds.
