Hive cards are a new standard for a deck of cards. Similar to how a standard deck with hearts, clubs, aces etc are a standard and games are created with them. Bee Line is one such game invented for using this new standard. But a quick overview of the deck: ## The deck - 60 cards - Hexagonally shaped - Each has a value of 1, 2, 5, or 10. - Each side of the hexagon is randomly assigned to either bee, honey, or flower. - Each card has one line connecting two corners straight across. ## The game ![[IMG_3408.jpeg]] Cards are laid out into a map. Players start on the same start tile and try to get to the same end tile first. The exact shape and size of the map and which tiles are start and end are mutually decided by the players in advance. ![[IMG_3410.jpeg]] Players take turns moving from their current tile to a neighboring tile one tile per turn with exceptions to be mentioned later. When moving between tiles, their game pieces are placed in the center of the tile. Players don't move within the tile, only hopping from one to another. It's easiest to think of movement as going from one tile *center* to another. ![[IMG_3409.jpeg]] A player can move from one tile to another in three ways: 1. Where sides have matching symbols. 2. Where corners have connecting lines, called a bee line. 3. Where sides do not have matching symbols and the player pays the amount on the destination tile to the bank. ## Crossing through matching symbols ![[IMG_3412.jpeg]] Players can cross through multiple tiles if there are connecting sides of the same single symbol for that turn. In the example above, the player can move from bottom to top via the matching bee sides. ## Crossing bee lines Players can move through any number of tiles connected by bee lines in one turn. After crossing, they collect the amount shown on the tile they land on. They are also allowed to spin any tile on the board by any degree before the next player goes. ![[IMG_3411.jpeg]] In the example above, the player can move from bottom to top because there is a continuous bee line through them. ## Getting unstuck At any point players can forfeit their turn to replace the tile they are currently sitting on with another tile of their choosing. The new tile must be placed with the bee line in the same orientation. This can be useful when getting stuck if there is absolutely no way to move from their current tile.
