I'm on a bit of a DOAC (Diary of a CEO) kick and have been watching interviews back to back. I was particularly interested lately in an episode with [Jessie Inchauspé](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnEJrgc1BCk) the "Glucose Goddess" who opened my eyes about how glucose works in the body and how it relates to our mood. One of the more useful pieces of advice she gives in this episode is one of her glucose hacks to prevent a blood sugar spike by eating. This can be done simply by eating your food in a specific order, not even needing to pause in between. That order is: Vegetables, then proteins and fats, followed by starches and sugars.
I thought it would be neat to get a glucose monitor and try it for myself. For the unfamiliar, a glucose monitor requires pricking your finger and putting a small amount of blood on a test strip. This can then be analyzed pretty quickly by a simple glucose monitor
This is [the one I ordered](https://a.co/d/2BGkLZv).
Unfortunately, I only had the ten strips the kit came with, so while I wanted to get an hourly report from the time I woke up to when I went to bed, I only got this. A pack of 50 strips should arrive later today, so maybe I'll come back tomorrow to give another report.

Let's talk about that high point up there at 173 mg/dL. I found this super interesting because I was pretty well between meals at this point—I hadn't had lunch yet, but I grabbed two delicious figs right off a neighbor's tree. Amazing that just those two figs would spike like this, but hey, that's sugar after all.
The rest of the data is pretty interesting too because it supports Inchauspé's hack of eating in the right order (which I did not do with the figs). In the morning I had a cup of coffee and a smoothie. It's a fruit smoothie but the fruit ratio is minimized by protein powder, and different nutritional mixes like ashwaghanda, moringa, ground chia seeds, ground flax seeds. Maybe that doesn't count as eating in order but I will say it was full of fiber. After my workout I had my Vega Sport Premium drink (See [[Diet]] under Breakfast). Other than the figs, I then had a salad for both lunch and dinner as well as a non-alcoholic beer at around 1PM (I'm drinking the rest of these in my fridge before phasing this out from my diet completely).
I might watch that interview again or look into more of her work because I'd like to understand more the benefits of well regulated glucose levels and other aspects of life.
